What is the job role?
We are looking for an experienced, qualified Financial Controller to take ownership of our core recurring finance function on a part-time or fractional basis. You will be responsible for delivering an accurate and timely monthly close, clean management accounts, and robust financial controls. This is a hands-on role - we need someone who is content to execute with autonomy.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End & Management Accounts
Own and deliver the month-end close process end-to-end, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare and present monthly management accounts to the Head of Finance and senior leadership team.
Maintain a clean and well-controlled Xero ledger, enforcing accounting policy and chart of accounts discipline.
Inventory Valuation & COGS
Take full ownership of inventory valuation, including landed cost calculations for goods imported from China via the 3PL.
Reconcile inventory positions across internal systems to ensure accuracy.
Ensure accurate standard cost and COGS accounting across own-brand and McLaren licensed product lines.
Trade Payables & Receivables
Manage supplier payment runs and maintain disciplined aged creditor processes.
Oversee B2B trade receivables, working with the Commercial Director to maintain healthy debtor days.
Manage McLaren royalty calculations, invoicing, and reconciliations.
Controls, Compliance & Reporting
Maintain robust financial controls and internal processes suitable for a scaling consumer business.
Lead statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
Lead VAT returns, corporation tax compliance, and payroll oversight.
Provide ad hoc financial analysis, scenario modelling, and input into the annual budget.
Who are we looking for?
The ideal person has the following skills, experiences and competencies:
Essential
✔Demonstrable experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior finance role
✔Strong track record of owning month-end close and preparing management accounts
✔Experience with inventory-based businesses and cost-of-goods accounting
✔Highly proficient in Xero and Excel / Google Sheets
✔Able to work independently with minimal oversight
✔ Intercompany and group accounting experience.
Desirable
Background in D2C, e-commerce, retail, or consumer brands
✔Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting (USD, EUR, GBP)
✔Familiarity with 3PL logistics and import duty / landed cost treatment
